A Rare Breed

All of Plymouth Prowler's exotic materials and engineering methods produce an eerily silent, squeak- and rattle-free interior environment that is both classic in style and space-age in composition.

Prowler engineering includes:

  • A four-link rear suspension with a lower control arm locates rear wheels driven by an automatic transaxle.
  • The front and rear quarter panels, rear valance panel and motorcycle fenders are made of sheet molding compound. The disparate elements are joined by welding, adhesive bonding and a new device called a "self-piercing rivet," used to attach the aluminum of the door panel to its steel hinge reinforcement.
  • Body tub components are nearly all made of 5454-O aluminum alloy; hood, deck lid, doors and hood side panels are stamped of 6022 aluminum in temper T6.
  • Prowler's torquey and high-revving all-aluminum 3.5-liter 24-valve SOHC V6 produces 253 horsepower at 6,400 rpm, and 255 pound-feet of torque at 3,950 rpm.
  • The fully independent front suspension combines unequal length control arms with coil-over-spring/shock assembly mounted inboard "Indy" style.
  • The front fascia and bumper covers are made of reaction injection molding (RIM) urethane; The lovely French curve in the profile of the grille is rendered in a polymer dubbed acrylonitryle butadiene styrene.
